Get Moving!
To be healthy you’ve got to move. Some of us (crazy people I know) love to work out, and for others the thought of starting a workout program is confusing or intimidating. Our bodies were created to move, and we need to be active so we can stay healthy and vital throughout life. There are many ways to add more movement into your day. Here are some tips to help you get moving:
1. Take short movement breaks – If you are just getting started, or work behind a desk all day, take a few breaks during the day and walk around your office or up and down a few flights of stairs. If you work from home, stop once an hour and do a few body weight movements such as squats, jumping jacks, or lunges.
2. Take a morning or evening walk – This can be a time all for you, or use it as time with family or friends. Pick a time each day that works for you and get out and go for a walk in your neighborhood or at a local park.
3. Find a fitness community you enjoy – If you are confused about how to get started, joining a gym and working with a trainer or taking some classes can help get you going in the right direction. Having someone to help guide you can make getting started a lot less stressful. Finding a group of people that enjoy doing the same types of things you do can make going to the gym fun and help motivate you as well as others.
4. Find a good program to do at home – If you feel lost in gyms or don’t feel like you’re ready to take that step yet, there are good programs that can be done with minimal equipment at home. A few good websites to check out for at home workouts is www.coconutsandkettlebells.com, www.menshealth.com, www.jensinkler.com. All of these websites offer programs you can do at home designed by trainers.
No matter where you are on your health journey or what you enjoy doing, the most important thing is that you get moving!
